Walk into any dispensary and you’ll see labels covered in percentages, ratios, and words like limonene. Here’s what actually matters when you’re choosing a product — and what our specialists look at first.
THC: potency, not quality
THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is the primary intoxicating cannabinoid, shown as a percentage of weight for flower or milligrams per serving for edibles and beverages. A higher number means more potent — not better. A 17% flower with a rich terpene profile can deliver a fuller, more enjoyable experience than a 30% strain that’s all punch and no character. If you’re newer to cannabis, starting lower and going slow is always the right call.
CBD: the balancer
CBD (cannabidiol) is non-intoxicating and tends to smooth out THC’s edges. Products with meaningful CBD alongside THC — like a strain testing 18% THC and 14% CBD — generally feel more balanced and approachable. Labels sometimes express this as a ratio (1:1, 2:1), especially on edibles.
Terpenes: where the personality lives
Terpenes are the aromatic compounds that give each strain its distinct smell, flavor, and much of its character. A few you’ll see often:
- Limonene — citrusy and bright
- Caryophyllene — peppery and warm
- Linalool — floral, lavender-like
- Myrcene — earthy and mellow
- Pinene — fresh pine
Our Campfire Cannabis strain cards list the dominant terpenes on every product so you can start connecting what you smell to what you enjoy.
Indica, sativa, hybrid — a starting point, not a rulebook
The classic categories are useful shorthand — indica-leaning strains are traditionally associated with relaxation and sativa-leaning with energy — but the cannabinoid and terpene profile tells you more than the category alone. That’s why our labels and menu cards show both.
